Los Angeles, August 8 (PTI) – Famed director Michael Bay has departed from the upcoming Netflix film "Fast and Loose," which stars Hollywood icon Will Smith, due to creative differences with Smith.
Bay, known for his blockbuster work on the "Bad Boys" franchise alongside Smith, was initially slated to direct this action-packed film. The screenplay for "Fast and Loose" was crafted by an esteemed team of writers: Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, Chris Bremner, and Eric Pearson.
The Hollywood Reporter, a reputable entertainment news source, confirmed that Bay, celebrated for directing hits like "The Rock," "Armageddon," "Pearl Harbor," and the "Transformers" series, will no longer helm the film.
Prior to Bay's involvement, director David Leitch was associated with the project.
The narrative of "Fast and Loose" centers around a man who awakens in Tijuana with no recollection of his past. As he tries to unravel his history, he discovers a dual existence, leading a life as a formidable crime kingpin and simultaneously acting as an undercover CIA operative.
Production duties for the film are handled by Leitch and Kelly McCormick under their banner 87North, with Smith also serving as a producer on the project. Additionally, Robert Simonds and Noah Fogelson are executive producers for STXfilms.
Netflix is targeting a 2026 start for production and is currently in search of a new director to bring the film to fruition.
